The Sixth Season of the Sopranos

Man do I love me some Sopranos.    I know people say it is or was the best show on television… and they are probably right.  Its an amazing show with so many facets its difficult to pinpoint all of them.  The show ended a while ago… and looking back and watching the show again I was pleased and delighted to be able to take it all in one more time.  Seasons one all the way through to five.

I couldn’t help but notice however that the 6th season totally sucks a fat cock in comparison.  I was watching it and aside from a few things, it all seemed kinda boring.  Its strange because I don’t ever recall thinking that The Sopranos was EVER boring.  It crawls along… like something grand or supreme was about to happen, but nothing.

The 6th Season of the Sopranos Sucked.

The show was INCREDIBLE during the first 5 seasons.  I’ve heard people bitch and moan about seasons 4 and 5… and they can put on a pair of cement shoes and jump in the Hudson.  There is a flow to the show up to the end of the 5th season that cannot be denied.  The 6th season comes in all wrong… way too late… and begging for the viewer to give a shit.  I did some homework and found out that there was almost 2 years of space between the 5th and 6th seasons on HBO.   2 years?   I’m sorry but that sounds like the writers and creators were burned out and had to come back because of a contract or something.  The viewers wanted more… and they got more.  More shit.

When the show started they had writers who were bucking standards and taking risks… but after a long and much needed break… went into this “asshole gear” where it seriously seems like they were trying to write AGAINST viewer expectations.  To water down the show and place meaning where was there was just a barely decent plot.   All the while doing this under the guise af artistic license.

To put it plainly… good writing requires making choices, and David Chase decided to not make a choice at all… but to drone on as if NOTHING would bring it to an end.  Im sorry but this kind of artsy fartsy non ending shit is just fine in your french existential films and whatnot… but this is a FUCKING TV SHOW.  So get over yourself and your massive ego and quit giving each other handjobs for two fucking seconds and think of a way to END the show… you know… because its ENDING!!!!!

Totally weak.

I sort of agree with this. There are a few episodes that were fantastic in the 6th season, so it doesn’t entirely suck, just mostly. What about the episode w/ Sil & Bobby dying? That was amazing. Anyway, yes, you are right, they messed up and should have given us a real ending that we as viewers deserved.

I agree, there were a couple of good episodes, or good scenes within some more lackluster episodes. The ending blew, and I hated it.

wow i dont think so at all, there was more time between seasons 3 and four or 4 and 5 like 2 1/2 years, i love the end season, the vito thing was a little drug out but i love the end, it is so true to the writting, it is a peice of these peoples lives and just like it picked up in season one, it just starts and then at the end it just ends, and i love that with all this shit going on they are at some americana diner, living in some doomed delusional world of happiness and then the story just goes on, they will bee fights and shit just like the whole show but we dont get to see it. i love it. i actually was just thinking of this the other day and how much i love it. sorry guys you are all wrong

So sad that I have nothing to say on this subject because we don’t have cable & haven’t rented it.
:( maybe that will have to be what we put on netflex soon, so I can know what the hell you are talking about. Once I’ve seen it, I will come back to comment.

    Dear Madsilver,

So im suppossed to get all wet and excited all the stuff that they DIDNT show? So Im suppossed to imagine the show? IT DOESNT WORK THAT WAY. You can read into every little detail all you want with all the subtext in the world… but it doesnt change the fact that without all the hype behind it… its just boring TV.

I need to watch season six again to determine if the whole thing sucks… but i do agree that the last episode was a total pile of shit…

I wasn’t looking for a crazy, half the cast dies or goes to prison ending, but to end it like the guest director for the final episode was David Lynch is fucking lame. Many will disagree, but I think it was done in part so that a few years down the road, the series can be reopened or a movie can be made to “wrap things up” and make millions for all involved. How anyone can walk away saying the ending was perfect is beyond me… I don’t know if I can even bring myself to watch that episode a second time.

Anyway, does anyone know if the alternate “pie fight” ending is ever going to be released?

This show was totally overrated, the first couple seasons were cool, then fart, totally boring. Watch Rescue Me, that show kicks ass!

Whatever Russell… Rescue me doesnt hold a gay candle to Sopranos

if you didnt like the ending then you didnt really like what was so great about the show. sorry, it is right on the money

Maybe it’s just me, but I am sick of hearing about the Goddamn Sopranos. You know what sucks? THE MAFIA. There are two good pieces of cinema dealing with this phenomena. Godfather I & II. Period. But, what about Casino - Boring. GoodFella’s - Shit Salad. I think if you’re gonna be so hard on Trainspotting you should apply the same rational to Mafia movies and/or TV shows. What is with our cultural fascination with trying over and fucking over to make the mob sympathetic. Well I am officially done. Fuck the Mob and Fuck Italy!
